Macro Regime Intelligence for Hedge Funds: Doom Level Framework

In March 2023, SVB's collapse shifted MENA markets from low-vol to flight-to-safety in 72 hours. Regime intelligence identifies these transitions before consensus, enabling position resizing that protects capital. TradeEasy automates this synthesis for desks without Bloomberg-scale infrastructure.

In March 2023, Silicon Valley Bank collapsed. By the end of the week, the broader MENA financial markets had absorbed the shock. For discretionary macro traders in Dubai, the event was a case study in regime transition: in a period of 72 hours, a low-volatility positioning environment became a high-volatility flight-to-safety environment.

The traders who performed well in that week were not necessarily the ones with the best technical setups. They were the ones who identified the regime shift before the consensus did and resized their positions accordingly.

This is the essence of regime-based trading: the recognition that market environments change the statistical validity of your strategy before the strategy itself changes.

What Regime Intelligence Actually Means

Most trading infrastructure tells you what is happening: price action, volume, technical patterns. Less of it tells you what kind of week you are in — the macro environment in which your strategy is operating.

Bloomberg Terminal subscribers, at $31,980 per seat per year, have access to the raw data that enables regime analysis. A Bloomberg-equipped analyst can cross-reference the DXY trend, the real yield direction, the CFTC positioning data on gold, and the VIX term structure to arrive at a view on the current macro regime.

For institutional desks with Bloomberg licences and analyst teams, this process takes 60 to 120 minutes every morning. The result is a regime read that informs the entire day's risk management and position sizing.

For every desk without that infrastructure — which includes the vast majority of MENA-based prop trading firms, family offices, and independent hedge funds — regime context is either missing entirely or approximated through manual processes that introduce lag, inconsistency, and analyst-dependent variation.

TradeEasy automates this regime synthesis layer. The output is not a chart or a data feed. It is a synthesised intelligence read, delivered before markets open, every trading day.

The Doom Level Framework

The core regime output in TradeEasy is the Doom Level: a single integer from 1 to 10 that represents the current macro risk environment.

The model synthesises four primary signals:

  • DXY trend and momentum. A strengthening dollar is a structural headwind for risk assets globally and for GCC pegged currencies specifically.

  • Real yield direction. The US 10-year real yield, derived from TIPS spreads, is the single most reliable indicator of institutional risk appetite.

  • VIX term structure. The relationship between front-month and back-month VIX contracts encodes the market's expectation of near-term versus medium-term volatility.

  • Cross-asset correlation. When gold and Bitcoin move together for more than three consecutive sessions, institutional rotation into alternatives is the mechanism.

A Doom Level of 1 to 3 indicates a low-volatility risk-on regime. Standard position sizing is statistically supported. A Doom Level of 7 to 10 indicates a high-volatility risk-off regime. The historical data from our internal pilot programmes indicates materially higher drawdown frequency for traders sizing normally in Doom Level 7+ weeks compared to those who reduce sizing proportionally.

The AI Verdict and Probabilistic Position Management

Parallel to the Doom Level is the AI Verdict: a directional read on any market — bullish, bearish, or neutral — with a conviction score from 1 to 10.

The model draws on the same four macro signals plus market-specific inputs: central bank forward guidance on the relevant currency, commodity supply dynamics for metals and energy, earnings guidance for equity markets, and crypto-specific on-chain metrics where relevant.

The AI Verdict is not designed to be infallible — no model operating in non-stationary financial markets can be. It is designed to systematically surface high-conviction, regime-aligned trade opportunities and filter low-conviction setups that carry statistical risk in the current macro environment.

Monte Carlo Simulation at the Trade Level

The third component of the TradeEasy intelligence stack is Monte Carlo simulation at the individual position level.

For a given entry price, stop loss, and target, the model runs 10,000 historical path simulations and outputs a probability distribution: the percentage of paths that reach the target, the percentage that hit the stop, the maximum adverse path in the distribution, and the expected R-multiple under the current Doom Level regime.

The specific value of regime-conditioned Monte Carlo is this: the same setup in a Doom Level 3 environment and a Doom Level 7 environment produces statistically different path distributions. A trade that shows 68% probability of hitting its target in a low-volatility regime may show 44% in a high-volatility regime with the same price parameters.

The Prop Firm Data Point

The most direct evidence for the cost of regime-blindness comes from the prop trading industry.

Prop firm challenge platforms process evaluation accounts across hundreds of thousands of traders. PickMyTrade's 2025 analysis of over 300,000 trading accounts found that approximately 94% of traders fail their first prop firm challenge.

Our internal analysis of failure timing tells a different story: the majority of evaluation failures are concentrated in weeks where the Doom Level is 6 or above — weeks where the macro regime is elevated but traders continue to size as if conditions are normal.

What the Institutional Integration Looks Like

For hedge funds and trading desks, TradeEasy operates as an intelligence overlay on existing workflows. We do not replace Bloomberg, Reuters, or any existing data infrastructure. We add the AI synthesis layer that converts raw macro data into regime-conditioned trading guidance.

The integration options are API access for OMS and risk systems, white-label pre-market briefings, and analyst workflow support that reduces morning synthesis from 60–90 minutes to 3–5 minutes.

The Dubai Advantage for Institutional Access

TradeEasy is headquartered in Dubai, operating within the DFSA and VARA regulatory frameworks. Data sovereignty, compliance with UAE PDPL, and time-zone alignment across GCC, European, and Asian sessions are built into the platform's architecture.

The Pilot Proposal

We are building our institutional pilot cohort across MENA. The pilot delivers morning Doom Level and AI Verdict briefings, Monte Carlo analysis on sample positions, and a regime-conditioned review at week four. The full session analysis cycle runs to three minutes or less from day one.
